New details on the first new Super Mario side-scroller since the Super Nintendo.

A French gaming site, Jeux France, recently picked up on some new screen shots and a interview with producer and level designer of the New Super Mario Bros., Takashi Tezuka.

The screen shots reveal some exciting new features the game will be offering, such as Mario's colossal size and a blue shell equipped to his back. Some screen shots show Mario gigantic, as tall as the screen in fact, easily plowing through goombas, koobas, and turning blocks into cookie crumbs. While in others Mario seems to be as tall as a cookie crumb and facing off against now titanic goombas and koopas.

In the interview, Takashi Tezuka stated, “There will be parts where you must cooperate; still, I thought it would be most fun if it was basically competitive.” Tezuka then continues by saying, “it’s not just about getting to the goal first — there are . . . other factors.” This seems to be very exciting for gamers who look forward to this titles wire-less multiplayer mode.

Koji Kondo included that every level will end in a flagpole and the notorious original Super Mario Bros. music will be included in the game, but he will be adding some new tunes as well.
