What's old is new again as Capcom revives the classic Resident Evil title (again) for the Nintendo DS.
Everyone was more than a little surprised when Capcom revealed plans to release Resident Evil for the DS.
The game is a remake of the original 1996 title for the PlayStation. It will feature three modes.
The first is classic mode, which is a direct port of the original game. The lower screen will function as a map and health indicator, but it can also be used to manage inventory.
The second is rebirth mode, which is a remake of the original title. Don't expect fancy graphics though; they are nearly identical to the aged game and won't be on par with the visually stunning remake for the Gamecube. This mode features an occasional first-person knife battle with a zombie. That's right; the knife will now be equipped to you at all times and can be quickly called with the L button. During the first-person battles, however, you control your swiping with the stylus. Zombies no longer have that much trouble finding their way through a door. Some puzzles have been changed around and will be a treat to any fan.
The third is a multiplayer mode. For the first time ever, you can play Resident Evil with a friend. Competitive mode has you seeing who can kill the most enemies, while cooperative is used to solve puzzles. A new mansion map will be implemented for this role.
Resident Evil: Deadly Silence will be released in the first quarter of 2006, with a probable January release.
