Nintendo brings DS gamers something new and satisfy online voice chat demand.
Today at the DICE Summit 2006, Nintendo announced various new services that will be gracing their latest hand held, the Nintendo DS.
According to Nintendo, new kiosks will be erected around the country making downloadable demos and movie trailers available to DS gamers through the system's local wireless network feature. Kiosks are going to be placed at participating Best Buy and GameStop retailers.
The downloadable content can be uploaded to your DS through the download play option; the system will notify players when content is available for download. Downloaded content will remain on the console until the system is turned off. The first kiosks will include the following downloadable demos and a Metroid Prime Hunters video clip:
- Tetris DS
- Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day
- Mario Kart DS
- Meteos
- True Swing Golf
- Pokemon Trozei
As well as bringing players free downloadable demos, Nintendo has just revealed that the next online title for the DS, Metroid Prime Hunters, will feature online voice chat through the DS's built-in microphone. Although voice chat will indeed be available to players, according to Reggie Fils-Aime, players will only be able utilize voice chat before and after matches, but not during. Additionally, players can only voice chat with other players registered to their friend list.
The kiosks will be made available in late March along with the release of Metroid Prime Hunters.
Seeing how voice chat can become very annoying rather then a convenience, particularly in games of competition, when playing online, I see this limitation as a gift. I really do not want to here Jonny Hack-a-lot boasting for every kill he may be getting, he probably does not want to hear me complain either.
