Whatever happened to advertising to teenage boys?
Reggie Fils-Aime recently spoke at DICE about Nintendo having advertisements during TV shows such as Oprah and Ellen. He also mentioned a “blue ocean of opportunity through new types of game play.” Reggie claims that Nintendo wants to attract female gamers as well as older gamers through this new advertising strategy. Reggie warns that the number of teenage boys is declining and high schoolers are loosing interest in video games.
He, on a lighter note, noted that Nintendogs has sold over 1 million copies in
Reggie also focused on the success of hand-held games during his speech and compared said success to the decline of consoles. He also made comparisons to “disruptive technologies” like the Apple iPod.
Drawing his speech to a close, Fils-Aime talked about Nintendo’s next generation system codenamed Revolution. According to Reggie, it would “create a democracy of ideas. It's not going to be about those with the biggest production budget."
