Fils-Aime covers multiple Nintendo issues.

Reggie Fils-Aime sure has been keeping busy these past two weeks. Today, Engadget brings us yet another interview with Nintendo's executive vice president of sales and marketing. This time, Reggie spoke about Nintendo consoles, both new and old, and confirmed the existence of a new Nintendo franchise.

Speaking of this new franchise, Reggie expressed Nintendo's desire for this franchise to be another landmark series, like the Legend of Zelda. Although the debuting platform for this new franchise was not revealed, Reggie seemed to be pairing it with the Revolution in the interview. The franchise will be unveiled at this year's E3 this coming May.

Fils-Aime then spoke of the Nintendo Revolution. As well as reiterating that Revolution is just a codename and that the console will undoubtedly lack HD, Reggie did confirm that Nintendo has already shipped over 1,000 Revolution controller kits to developers. According to Reggie, "Developers are truly embracing the innovation." he explained, "They’re embracing the approach and quite frankly, they’re embracing our vision; our vision of creating games that are as sophisticated as the core gamer wants it to be but could also be as straightforward and as accessible as brand new gamers [want].”. On Revolution’s lack of HD, “All of the next-generation systems will look great, but HD games don't look as good on the majority of regular TVs. The question is which one will have amazing new kinds of games with innovative experiences. The answer is Revolution.”

Reggie also spoke of Microsoft's Xbox 360. Apparently, Reggie was not very satisfied with the 360, or in his words, he was "under whelmed". He explained, “As a consumer, would I have shelled out what is close to $700 when you look at the premium unit, some software, some accessories? If I would’ve done that I’d be disappointed right now.”

Finally, Reggie confirmed that a third DS redesign is not impossible. As Nintendo did with the GBA, they will always be in search of ways to make their products better and a third model may be possible for the future.
